Hey I recently installed winxp (home) on new hard drive in a computer then put the old hard drive (which had windows me on it) back in and tried to access the old hard drive. In windows it will see the drive and install drivers for it but it will not let me use explorer nor get a drive letter for it. The information on the hard drive is very important what can I do to get to access the files in another computer. I put the old hard drive in my computer at home... ran partition magic on it and same thing... it sees the drive and lets me view the preferences on it but will not let me define a drive letter for it. Hence no access to files. Any Ideas? Please help me!

Did you reset the old HD's jumper to Slave?

Also, if GoBack is installed on the old HD, then you may have to uninstall it since it makes changes to the MBR.
You can do this by disconnecting the new HD, and installing the old HD as Master.

A) Specifically where in windows: device manager, my computer, disk management, command prompt ??

B) Can the old drive be seen and accessed from a dos-based boot floppy diskette ??

C) GetDataBack for FAT from www.runtime.org is very likely to be able to recover any data if you cant access a drive in windows that does however appear in the BIOS setup.
