Hi,

I've got a funny thing happening to my wifes computer at the moment. When she switches it on a the mains it comes up with the compaq splash screen, the HDD makes it usual noises but then nothing. If she unplugs it and plugs it back in the same happens (i.e. nothing).

If however she uses the switch on the back of the tower (after leaving the machine off for approx. 30seconds) the machine boots to the compaq screen, then beeps twice with a "CMOS - check time and date settings - press f1 to continue or f10 to enter setup"

When she presses f1 the machine boots to windows and everything is fine. I've tried replacing the cmos battery but the same happens.

The machine is a compaq presario (UK model) Pentium 233 with 48Mb RAM.

After changing the CMOS battery a person needs to power-up,
press f10 and select Date and Time settings. Once this is adjusted
then select CMOS Default Settings at the main screen. Save and Exit.

Changing the battery should have re-set default settings for you,
however, the correct date and time need to be re-set.
