View Full Version : Load Windows so that CD isn't necessary to install a printer

I work for a nonprofit charitable organization that accepts donated (always obsolete) computers on which I perform fdisk, reformat and reinstall Win 98SE. We then give them to people who would otherwise not be able to buy a computer. We also do some basic training in Windows functions, word processing, etc.

Normally I don't have a printer to go with the machine. There is a way to copy the install files from the Windows CD to the HD so that when the person installs the printer he doesn't need the Windows CD. How do I do this? In some cases I understand that you have to go to the manufacturer's Web site for a printer driver, but I would like to have the most common ones available that already come packaged with Windows.

Thanks,

Look at sea69's instructions here (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13487).

(I don't know what the deal is with all the >'s that show up in that post. Just ignore them.)
