No sound is coming from my speakers.
How can I diagnose my speakers/sound card to find out what is wrong with it?

I have tried with friends speakers that are good but it does not seem to be working on my machine.

Please help

From simplest to more complex...

Are you certain the speakers are plugged into the correct "port" on the sound card? Line out or output?

Double click on the yellow speaker that is in your toolbar - this should bring up your sound properties. Make sure nothing is muted, and that all the sliders are up.

Right click on my computer. and then choose properties. Choose the device manager tab and then scroll down - do any devices have an exclamation, red 'x', or similar?
Do you even see your sound card under the device listing?

Post back and let us know...

Also, make sure the sound card is securely inserted in its slot.
And you can try removing the sound card from Device Manager, restart the computer, let Windows recognize it, and reinstall its drivers.

Yes

This is no longer in my system try as I had deslected it.
It is now back there.
The problem was one of the properties for the sound card was muted.
This could have happened from my other devices like TV-OUT/VIDEO-OUT etc.

Thanks for suggestions guys.
