I have been told that this might be a registry problem. At exactly 12 hours of uptime I get disconnected from the internet. I have contacted my ISP and they said that everything is okay on there side. Can anyone help me? The only way to get reconnected is to reboot. I have tried going into the network connections and click on repair connection status. I am running Windows XP.

What? You only get disconnected every 12 hours. Count yourself as lucky and just reconnect. Also, possibly you might be spending too much time online. Spend a little time with your friends or your kids. Go to a movie. Go on a picnic. Enjoy life.

LOL! what a geek

Are you dialup or broadband?

When I was on dialup (many moons ago) my ISP would kick me or anyone else off the server after 5 hrs or if I was idle for 30 min.

If on dialup you may want to check your dialup networking settings.

Thanks for your response rond36.

I have a cable connection that is supposed to be live all of the time. Just reconnecting (sometimes twice a day) is getting old, especially if I am in the middle of something. I have to close everything and reboot.

When I click on the Network Connections>Local Area Connections>Local Area Connections Status>Details I see this:

Lease Obtained 11/13/2004 2:23:58 PM
Lease Expires 11/14/2004 2:23:58 AM

So at 2:23 and 58 seconds in the morning my connection will terminate. How can I change this.

Can it be changed to next year or I would even be happy with 30 days?

If you don't connect through a router

Your ISP's DHCP server is assigning an IP address that is only good for 12 hrs and you will need to contact your ISP to get fixed it is on their end.
