I am using Windows XP Professional, and for some reason I cannot open Control Panel, and keep getting an error "invalid parameter (SM_RC_EINVAL)(11)".
I ahve tried re-installing Windows but it's still the same.
I can go to "start", "programs", "accessories", "scheduled tasks", "control panel" and I still get the error message but it opens up and I can then access it as normal.
Anyone got any suggestions of how to overcome this problem?
Many Thanks

All i can think of is you have some bad Ram , have you loading the chipset drivers in for your motherboard. Also have you updated all your drivers?

I can tell you what error "(SM_RC_EINVAL)(11)" =
11 SM_RC_RECORD_OPEN_ERROR
as for what that means...?

additionally, what does it say in Event Viewer??
(administrative tools)
{{are you using the VOICE controls??}}
if so, there could be a corrupt file... which could cause a conflict with XP's GUI.
try disabling voice speech programs

Thanks to those of you who sent me advice.
It turns out that I had a control panel for IBM Via Voice installed within my Windows control panel and it was not compatible with Windows XP, so I have now removed that and everything seems fine now.
Regards
Derek
