I own a Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDT that I have not used in several months. I recently turned it on only to find that there is a password that I cannot remember. After 3 attempts, the computer shuts down.
Is there any way around the password? I have heard that the battery can be removed to reset the password, not sure if this is true.
Can anyone help?

Yes you can clear a BIOS password by pulling the battery for 30 to 60 seconds then replace.

That may work, however some laptops (for instance my IBM) have a stronger security mechanism to prevent someone from stealing the computer and clearing it that easily. If pulling the battery doesnt work, you can search online for a set of "master" passwords. If they don't work, you may have to pay a professional to remove the password.
