OK...? Could you be a little more specific? You say that the programs run in 16bit mode, or is it that you CD drive does not want to work?

Ok here is what I recomend....first make sure you do a full system virus scan (with the latest virus definitions) just to make sure there are no viruses.

Next to address the issue of possible bad sectors on the hard drive. Open a command prompt (go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then click Command Prompt) this should bring up a DOS-like screen. With the cursor blinking in the screen type the following EXACTLY: chkdsk C: /F
A bunch of words will scroll on the screen saying if you wish to run the diskcheck on restart; press the letter "Y" and press Enter. Close the command prompt screen. Then reboot the computer. When the computer reboots it will show a blue screen that will check your disk for errors. It may take some time (5-30 min) so be patient.

As for a CD drive not working make sure you have the most recent drivers for your drive (go to the drive's manufature's web site). It also could mean that you have a failing CD-ROM drive. But it sounds like you reinstalled Windows XP, right? If so, it is probably the drivers for the CD drive.

Another thing, what program is it that runs in a 16bit mode? Some older software will not run on Windows XP. If I knew what the name of the software you are trying to run is, I may be of more help.

Why did you format the drive in the first place? Are you installing a new drive? If not, it appears you have a bad hard drive. I would download the diagnostics form the hard drive manufacturers web site.

Also there are no drivers to install for a PC with windows XP, they are native.
