Hi there
Config: Abit KR7A-RAID, athlon XP2000+, 2x512 Kingston DDR PC2100 ecc, elsa gloria2, swiftech mcx462 sink/fan, coolermaster atc-2000 mx case, antec 350 Watt psu, plus lots of harddisks not connected right now.

I trying to assemble my new pc, but as soon as i turn on power, the fans will spin, the MB shows me the yellow and green led, but after 5 seconds it hangs and starts to beep slow and long beeps. The leds on the keyboard flash once but after that everything is dead, except the fans which keep on spinning and the leds on the MB show me that there is power.
I disconnected everything, so right now there is only the psu, the case, the mb, the cpu and the fan. Doesn't work.
I switched the mb (same model) doesn't work.
I switched the cpu (xp1400) doesn't work.
I tried a different psu (250W) and it doesn't work.
I checked if there is any short between case and mb, but there is none. Currently i have not even mounted the mb in the case. So it is really minimal at the moment. But it doesn't work.
Could it be that 350 Watts aren't enough to run the cpu alone?
Is it possible that a psu kills a motherboard right away?
I am at the point where i can't understand anymore what actually is happening. It just doesn't work, no matter what i switch around.

Please any help would be essential to me.

Ok. In the meantime i reseated the memorysticks and it finally at least does something.
Now a new problem came up.
If i start it the cmos is telling me checksum error. So i go into the menu and exit after having changed the date/time. System does not reboot and after a coldstart it hangs in nowhereland.
So i have to reset the cmos again then it works again, until i save&exit.
What could that be now?

Grab the manual for the board and locate the "Clear CMOS Jumper" and make sure that it is in the Run/Normal position, not clear...also pull the battery and make sure that there isn't a little plastic strip under it (newer boards are getting away from using the battery for anything other than the clock, but not all and no idea which ones, so it isn't a bad idea to check)

Thanks for the tip.
I tried that but still have the problem, that it does not reboot once i save and exit.
Even if i don't save and just exit, the machina hangs.
I have to manually reset the cmos, as you suggested, and then it boots, with the default settings of course, which aren't the greatest.
Weird.

Is the RAID enabled or disabled? USB?

And here (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kg7kr7/kg7kr7faq.htm) for a run down and some soultions for just about everything related to your board.......from the above link

Kingston PC2100 registered ECC 512MB and 1024MB memory (part no's KVR266X72RC25/512 and KVR266X72RC25/1024) are incompatible

So are your Kingston 512's registered?

The kingstons are registered, and they both are the only sticks in there.
Raid and usb is enabled.

Thanks for the link, that is a great site, but nobody seems to have had this problem so far.

well, i;ll keep on searching and trying.

(btw.: the swiftech mcx462 is REALLY loud!)

Try another stick of RAM....something smaller. And for the intial testing try disabling the RAID and the USB...
