hi need help big time, my pc always says i dont have enough memory when i try to run scan disk even if i try to defragment my hard drive it will also say the same thing and also say id no:009 when trying to defragment even though i have 88%,its like somethink is taking the memory away i have formated my hard drive about 6 times in the last few days to try to sort it out but with no joy, when i am trying to run scan disk or defrgment there is nothing running in the backgroung, i have 128mb of ram on a 450 processer and a 20 gig hard drive. the reason i first format my hard drive is because of the low memory because i used to have lots of things on my hd and at one point i would be on the net and the memory would say i had sometimes 4% in the system. please help thanks

Could you put a little punctuation in your post? It's really hard to read.
Other than that, I don't have a clue what to tell you.

try the microsoft support site... i have the same problem... they want us to repartition the drive because we partition the drive with amount supposed to be for 8 gb hard drive and lower... for more info go to the site....
My question is .... is it possible to repartition the drive without reformatting the drive and reinstalling softwares? ... is there a utility that can do that?
Are you talking about RAM, system resources or space on your hard drive?
First off if you are getting low memory errors, they have little to do with the hard drive, and alot to do with how much and what you are running (especially in the background). You can check what is running in the background by hitting <ctrl><alt><del> once and looking at the list. It is a very good idea to turn off most everything before you try to run defrag. Here (http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Window_memory.htm) is a fairly good list of background programs and how to stop them...here (http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm) is another one.
Does your amount of installed RAM show up correctly in both BIOS and Windows?
If you are having low memory problems and are letting Windows manage your swapfile (virtual memory) is there enough diskspace (about 200-400 MB minimum) free...this is about the only time a disk will impact memory?
ratstu, using the utilities that come with windows...no; using third-party programs...yes. One of them is
Partition Magic (http://www.powerquest.com/)...

thanks mjc...
yes I heard of Partition Magic and I'm sure it's great... but It's not free... well here in the Philippines, softwares are very scarce and if you're lucky enough to find one, it's very expensive... if it's not pirated copies, though!
So, anyone can tip me in finding a freeware utility that can partition a drive without reinstalling softwares already in the drive...or a utility that can defrag a drive other than disk defrag included in Windows...???
thanks everyone and happy valentine's....
Ok......that was the first one, it is easier to use than some of the others...
Ranish Partition Manager (http://www.ranish.com/part/) is free......
I have links to a couple of good download sites on my site...the link is in my sig.
