Hello All,

I've been having a problem in getting the music to play in some of my older games. For example, in the original Grand Theft Auto, the sound will play find, but there'll be no music. The problem persists in spite of the newer soundcard I've had installed (a C3DX PCI-- er, I think.) Methinks I just need to check an option box somewhere. Can anyone give me a hand? Obviously, I'm a bit of a luddite, so go easy on me. :)

Cheers,

Eric

If you've adjusted the music volume in the problem games, then there may be a compatibility issue with the music in those old games if you're using a later version of DirectX.

Thanks, but I tried that. I could have been more specific: The problem seems to have something to do with playing music from the game CD. Checking "cd music on" on the games' option screens hasn't done anything.

If your sound is working fine but dont have music it's possible you could have a bad codec or need a newer version of it. In device manager under 'sound, video and game controllers' double click on audio codecs then properties tab. You have the option to disable each codec there. Disable one at a time and try again. If you do find a bad one you can search for an updated version of it.
