I'm using a MSI K7T PRO 2-A mobo and am having a problem with my DVD-ROM. Trying to play a movie brings up a message saying that DMA needs to be enabled.Going through the steps to enable DMA doesn't work. The box doesn't stay checked.I checked the BIOS setup and that looked OK.The drive is recognized and functions normally otherwise. What's going on here? Thanks in advance.
How long has this machine been up and running?
Have you installed the mother board drivers for it?

The machine has been running nicely for almost a year.I had it built for me,and yes,the obvious thing to do is contact the builder and have him fix it,but then I'd kinda feel left out of the loop.I'd rather learn how to fix it myself.Basic package is:K7T PRO2-A board,1.2G TBird cpu,Seagate 10K rpm SCSI hdd,HP 9510 CD-RW,Toshiba 1502 CD-ROM.Hums right along. Is there some difficulty with these boards and DMA? I thought I saw somewhere that the K6 boards had an issue with DMA,but can't remember where I saw this.I did poke around on MSI's site, looking for driver updates for this board (6330) and didn't find any.Would bus mastering have something to do with this? I had emailed Toshiba about this problem and one thing they mentioned was to look for an updated bus mastering driver. And so everyone knows,I would have posted this on the storage forum, but it seemed like more of a system/board kinda thing.

Download and install the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers, version 4.37, found here: www.viahardware.com (http://www.viahardware.com)
When you install the IDE drivers, you will be asked if you want to enable DMA Transfers, or Bus Mastering, can't remember which. That should get you going.
