Hi
I've got a PC that I'm looking at. It was working fine then the psu failed, I've replaced the dead psu with a new one and the pc worked for a while. Now, it is not working the fan in the psu comes on and there's power to the cpu fan, but that's it nothing else happens. I've disconnected the drives but still no joy, changed the memory and cpu and again still no joy. I'm thinking it could be a motherboard problem, any ideas?

What size PSU ? other than that not being enough Power to jump start it it most likly Mobo gone south? I'm taking for granted this is and ATX if so power supply won't work unless hooked to mobo, you could jumper the PSU to work with out the mobo attatched and try every thing else to see if it works? And then take the mobo out of case set it on a piece of cardboard hook it up and go from there, attatch everything one at a time? But most likley the Mobo is gone.

The psu is 230watts which is better than the old one (200watts) so I don't think that's the problem. I have seen on other sites that they suggest clearing the cmos by taking the battery out, but I can't see why this is going help, but I'll give it a try. Otherthan that I think the Motherboard is dead, unless something has happened to the psu on the +5v side. If I'm not mistaken the cpu fan operates at +12v, I'll just have to have another try tonight.
Cheers for your suggestions.
