hello friends
attempting to build a pc.
case is raidmax atx12v 420 watt model # KY-520atx
motherboard is a soyo sy-kt600 dragon plus v2.o
cpu is amd sempron 2500+ boxed cpu socket a
memmory is kingston ddr 512mb pc3200 400mhz
among some of the problems i am having along with the very poor motherboard instructions on what goes where. the quick start guide gives no directions on what goes where, unlike my last 2 pc builds.
anyway, i am not getting any power
have the main supply to the atx power and the 4 pin plug to the +12v power plug.
there is another plug 6 pin coming from the power supply but cant find anywher on the mother board to plug it.
have the case off my other atx pc and it is pluged into the board so, any ideas why i am getting nothing. yes the back shows to be on the 115v setting.
thanks

The 6-pin plug you mentioned is for Pentium 4 use. Does the fans spin when you turn it up? Have you check for any metal that may be short-circuiting the board?

hello friends
i am not getting anything. checked the power cord into the case and am getting juice to that point. but other than that no indication of any power at all.
thanks

Hmm so no spinning fan eh, bad. The last time I build, I forgot to hook up the front panel but the fans were still spinning. Have you try looking at the online manual? I found it here (http://www.soyo.com.tw/downloads/filedesc.php?id=2263).

hello friends
Ok got power to the motherboard by reseting the cmos jumper. cool
new question. here is the layout of the board

http://www.soyo.com.tw/dl/manuals/addendum/Ak7vkpe.pdf

stupid question but where do i connect the audio cable from the cdrom and also where do i connect the USB cables coming from the front of the case. the USB cables have i think a 4 pin connector and also a seperate 1 pin connector that says groound?
sorry for the questions

thanks
Michael

I never bother with the audio cable and it never seems to make any difference.

The USB arrangment varies from case to case and from mobo to mobo. Generally there are eight wires from the front connector hub and either 8 or 9 or 10 pin headers on the mobo. The arrangement of the wires is different for each of these so post back the number of wires and the number of pins.

hello friends
both usb cables coming from the front of the case are 4 pin connectors that say
vcc
usb-
usb+
ground
then there is a 1 pin cable with the same wire bundle that says ground

here are a couple pics i took
also there are 2 plugs coming from the front of the case that i haven't a clue what they are. almost like stereo plugs
the pics are

under "flying high again"
link, last 2 pics.
thanks for looking and also for the help.

As stated earlier there are different ways connecting to different mobos and the pin arrangement on the mobo headers is of particular pertinence but which you have not replied about. They should be detailed in your manual.

In earlier mobos with an 8-pin arrangement the RWGB bank of wires would sit on top of one another viz:
R,W,G,B on pins 2,4,6,8 (for 5V, Data-, Data+, Ground)
R,W,G,B on pins 1,3,5,7 (for 5V, Data-, Data+, Ground)

In later mobos with a 9-pin arrangement they would be the same but pin 9 would be a blank and pin 10 would be for an overcurrent signal viz
R,W,G,B on pins 2,4,6,8,10 (for 5V, Data-, Data+, Ground, Overcurrent)
R,W,G,B on pins 1,3,5,7,9 (for 5V, Data-, Data+, Ground, No Pin)

Just to get totally confusing, on the latest mobos with a 10-pin arrangement you may find that the two banks are a bit reversed viz:
-,B,G,W,R on pins 2,4,6,8,10
R,W,G,B,- on pins 1,3,5,7,9

Check your manual or the manufacturer to find out the pin assignments if it is not obviously clear; that is the only way to be sure. I expect that the supplementary black wire is actually directly connected to the other black wires on the front case circuit board - in which case you can use it as a supplementary ground.

The two additonal cables look like auxillary front microphone and speaker cables which you would bring through the back of the case and plug into the sound card so that you can then attach these to the front of the case as desired.

hello friends
thanks Paul for the info. Will attempt to finish up the build either today or within the next couple days. Working 12 hr graveyards puts a drag on the body.
thanks again.

Hello friends
hey Paul got it up and running today. The only thing i am having problems with so far is the MB is not seeing my video card that i installed. Ran out of time messing with it so will do a little on-line research and mess with it tomorrow.
Thanks for the help Paul
