Hey guys, im new here, never needed to ask much about computers before, I usually look up whatever i need, however I've hit a wall :(
I was cleaning my monitor screen (CRT) as I usually do, though this time there must of been something on the cloth, and it has scratched my screen, i DONT THINK ive scratched the actual glass itself, but rather the "anti-glare coating" that is on it.
My quesiton is, how can i fix this? is there somewhere/someway i can get it resurfaced? what are my options? what is the best solution? I feel like such a knob right now :(
I REALLY appreciate the help you guys could give!
p.s My monitor is a "Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 93SB, 19 Inch" if anyone needs to know that for some reason.

If you're really bored, and want to be somewhat amused at the same time, take a look at the thread below...
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33373&highlight=Anti-glare+coating
There even appears to be a successful solution at the end of the thread.
Of course, mine was in a million pieces long before the last post.
(And if our new friend "satman_1" had read the thread a little more carefully, I don't think he would have asked if I "ever solved my problem").
Yes! I did! :D
Good luck! (I'm afraid you may need it) :(

ok .......... read that entire thread ............ steel wool ......... now thats going a lil extreme, im gonna email mitsubishi and ask them what to do, which will probably be "ur screwed, buy a new monitor from us", but i do have another question.
That patch of screen that had no "anti-glare" material, did the image/picture/text under it look GOOD still? ie, it looked the same only brighter??? im a lil reluctant to try and get rid of the rest of the "anti-glare" surface if without it, the picture looks crap! :(
thanks, and I will find a solution to this! (then let u know :))

Most searches come up with answer that it cannot be repaired because the manufacturing process is to spin the monitor (screen side up) and drip a drop of liquid onto the centre of the spinning CRT.
Best I can come up with is something like Lens Doctor (http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/lens_doctor.html?gid=) which you could try on a small experimental scratch and use on your spectacles or sun-glasses if it doesn't work on the monitor.

Hello Ossie
To answer your question, yes.....the image where the anti-glare material was missing was fine. It was just EXTREMELY bright in that area. MUCH brighter than anywhere else. (I did mention that in the original thread).
That is why I felt that my only hope was to remove the rest of the ant-glare material and turn down the brightness, so at least the screen would be uniform throughout.
You could try something like Paul mentioned (lens Doctor) or "Glare Busters" as mentioned in the original thread, but I honestly doubt that any attempt to "repair" the material would have been good enough for my liking.
If the area showed any obvious differences AT ALL, I couldn't tolerate it.....you may be easier to please. :)
Because of the rather intricate process where the Anti-Glare material almost becomes part of the Glass itself, it appears this is no easy task to say the least.
I did quite a bit of searching and nowhere did I find a solution to repair the missing area....only to remove the rest of the material.
By all means if you find a solution that works to your liking, let us know!
Good luck! ;)
(Edit) One more thing Ossie....I noticed you said that you "scratched" the screen.
If we're talking simply a small "scratch", then something like Lens doctor may be good enough- (but still noticable most likely).
If it's a very small area maybe you could stand it. Mine ended up being about the size of a golf ball and was REALLY iirritating.
Again, good luck!
