I have recently bought and built a new pc with:

EPOX Motherboard
AMD Duron 1000
Nvidia Geforce 2 pro
Sound Blaster 5.1

when i boot the pc it tells me my cpu has changed and that i should update it, If i update the bios info and save and restart the display goes all strange with different colours and i can make out anything. THis happens even at the boot screen.
But if i do not change the bios info it runs perfectly as good as new, but the prob is it will keep asking me to update it every time i start.

Can someone help?? What kinda settings can i use?

How old is this machine?

When did this start happening?

Have you added/changed any hardware lately?

Any other errors or problems?

Welcome eagle2K.....

The present BIOS on your EPOX Mboard just isn't recognizing
a newer model Morgan core Duron. (1000Mhz and above)

Would be most beneficial if you could go to EPOX website and
obtain a BIOS upgrade for your particular board.

Luck.

When it is running .
What speed is the bios displaying at Boot 1000?
Or the safeboot speed?

Being Brand new does Not mean it supports the latest cpu.
All to many M/B makers say it will support XX then after it arrives you have to flash the bios
To get that support

Well, when i bought the mother board it says it supports the amd duron 1000. The boot speed is also 1000mhz, it runs at 1000mhz fine when i just skip the bios update.

I think that it would be worth checking to see if your board does have the latest BIOS, also check and make sure that the jumpers are correct...like the clear CMOS jumper, etc. In the past most boards used the little coin cell battery to keep the settings when powered down, now many (if not most do not, they use either a different type of memeory or some other method of doing so), but you may want to check the battery any way, make sure it is firmly seated and that there is nothing like a strip of plastic under it....

Also what kind and size power supply do you have? is it on the AMD approved list?

I.ve been tinkering here a little.
I have found a couple of ways to trash the screen.
The First is having the Video pallet snoop enabled.

Having the clock rate to high.

Having the Video Drive strength set to high and or fast write enabled without support

It is obvious that something is wrong when the Bios comes up different after a reboot.
Something is getting changed by the system Back to some default
Or the info is not being saved correctly
