Right click "My Computer" left click explore and the explore screen pops up and you can manage files right? Not on my computer. I have replaced the memory and now the mother board. I am recording the voltages to rule a bad power supply out but when I click on explore, the file managment screen pops up and the "flashlight" looks for files for about 1 second. Then the system freezes. I have to cntl-alt-del to end the exploring-my computer task. I am thinking hard drive next but I can load programs, play games and surf the net without problems. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! Er, excuse me. I have no ghost drive/devices, the latest 4 in 1 drivers, nothing running in the background, quality components and a similarly set up 750 tbird with no problems. What else could it be?

Well I give up! It's off to the shop for the new rig. I bought all the parts there. If they can't get it to work then it will be there problem. I will let you all know what they find.

Just a thought. Which version of IE are you using. IE6 has been screwing with Windows Explorer in a number of ways.

I am using IE 6 and love it. It works perfecty on my 750 T-bird system. The fix it guy says he has fixed it by reinstalling the 4-1 drivers. I doubt it. I'll pick it up today and hope for the best.

Whether he fixed it or not please let us know.

It would have been nice to know if your pc has always acted this way and if not my best guess is something is corrupted in your registry. BTW (this may seem strange) but is your ISP broadband/ADSL?

Clean installs Should be nothing wrong with the reg. I am on Cable (attbi). Like I said, My other computer is running fine with the same software. I think it is the hard drive but I guess I'll just have to give these pc guys a chance.

A similar problem has been reported on broadband where the NIC's TCP/IP have been set to Obtain IP addresses automatically. Unchecking this and specifying the IP address and subnet mask fields has stopped the freezes. Unlikely to work for you but no harm in checking.

Well it's back from the shop and he said all he did was reload the VIA 4 in ! drivers. I had done that, many times, but it seems to be working now. Humm. If it freezes again I will be able to take it back under labor warr. Thanks to all of you for your input.
