I am currently using MS 6163 Pro motherboard, with 500MHz, 128 MB of RAM and running Windows 98.
In normal circumstances, the four LEDs (four in total) on my motherboard will turn green when the machine is operational, but nowadays I am currently facing this problem.
Whenever I start to load windows from startup, the LEDs will turn to red, green, red, green (2 red, 2 green). Then my computer screen will go blank, and none of the keyboard of mouse or reset button is operational, but the computer is still on with the fan and everything still operational, but there is no loading sound from the computer. I have to unplug the power cord to turn off my computer each time.
So instead I run windows in safe mode. In safe mode, Windows are usually operational (only in rare case it has the above problems), but when I load Microsoft products software in safe mode, (etc MSN messenger, Internet Explorer), my screen will go blank again.
I have tried the other cases in the initial load and these are my results.
Command Prompt: My screen will go blank and LED lights turns to red, green, red green
Safe Mode Command Prompt: Work Perfectly, LED lights are all green.
Step-By-Step Confirmation: IF I choose not to load WIN, then the machine runs fine, and it will run too afterwards if i decide to go to windows (since it runs in the safe mode).
Do you guys have any idea what my problem is? Did I get a boot sector virus or is this a hardware problem with my motherboard? I have scanned the whole harddrive with the trialware of Trend-Micro Picillin AV program, but couldn't find any viruses tho... I can provide more information of my computer status if u need any.
