I have a Dell that needs to be fixed. Main problem is that it will not boot at all.
It will not boot to Windows. It boots to a screen that ask if I want to start Windows normally or safe mode or a couple of other options but always it never works as it will bring up a screen in blue that states Windows has encountered a fatal error and will not boot. UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME.
It goes on to say that I need to remove any hardware just added and try again. I have not been able to get into the bios yet. This is a Dell 2100 with xp. If I can get into the bios I believe we can get it squared away. Anyone seen this before?

Try this link for a fix for the boot.ini file:

If that doesn't work about the only way I found to do the one I had to fix recently was to reinstall Windows. Same blue screen error message, if chkdsk won't fix it I think you'll have no choice but to reinstall, the machine can't read the boot files on the hard drive.

Its fixed. Put the xp restore cd in and rebooted. Was able to delete old partition, then format and reinstall. This is what the owner was trying to do in the first place. Not sure what he did wrong.
