I have 2 CD drives on my computer. Suddenly, one of them will not open when I press the "open" button. When I do press the button I hear a kind of "chuck-a-chuck-a-chuck" going on.
I suspect that there might be a CD in there that is not seated properly--but I'm not 100% sure. I don't see a place where I can stick a paper clip in to open it (I thought I'd read some time ago that there was such a hole on most drives, for use in emergencies.)
Anyone have any suggestns about how to get this drive open?
That Small PIN hole is about the only way to do it
Unless you can get it to open using the eject command from explorer..
That pin hole is normally just under the tray itself..
Or on the edge of the tray,,
Short of removing the drive this is the best way

Try safe mode in case it's a virus
You can also disconnect the ide cable then boot up and open the tray with just the power lead connected
edit: wait-a-minit, if something is jammed in there, clicking an eject command from WMP, or whatever, isn't going to work anymore than pushing the button by the tray. Yep. If the pin hole doesn't get it done, I'd take it out, and do it carefully so I don't break something. :D

mmediately you guys have associated the noise to the 'assumed' dislodged cd disk. I have had that sound before and it was the read head/arms working back and forth on and off from their magnetic anchor point. By going into Safe Mode, the clunk-clunk,,, stopped and the drive would open. Also, if you take the data cable off, the disk will not spin up but the door/tray will work.
But I have also opened a cd via the button before, but also before the disk slowed down which resulted in the cd taking off across the room!
It's just one of those Fruss Trays...
