I have an old Gemlight GMB-P57SAX motherboard which I'm running with a pentium 166 mx. It something i was just putting back together to use as an MP3 jukebox rather than junk it. Problem is, that when you boot up, instead of going into the BIOS, what i'm getting on the screen is vertical black and white stripes, hundreds of them from left to right. It almost looks like TV interference.

I can't for the life of me work out what is causing it. The processor is fine and the motherboard was 100% ok before the old processor died. Jumpers are correctly set, graphics is onboard etc etc. I really don't know what os left to try.

Any clues? help would really be appreciated

Thanks

Stuart

First thing I would do is check the video cable for bent or broken pins. After that, I would try a different "known good" monitor.

Oh yeah. Welcome to the PC Guide. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Linux- Because you wouldn't buy a car with the hood welded shut, why should your O.S. be different?

I'll try a different monitor. Everything seems fine but I guess the cable could be shot. Thanks for the welcome
