Hi everyone, I'm glad to be part of this forum.
I right now have a problem that I can't find the solution to. My Norton Antivirus told me that I had a backdoor.trojan but it was unable to move it. Later on, my PC suddenly went off by itself and all subsequent attempts to put it back on led to it shutting itself down. I looked up how to remove backdoor.trojan at the Symantec website, and followed its instructions. First I disabled System Restore, then I went into safe mode and ran a full system scan. However, the scan this time showed no viruses on my PC, so I reset my PC and went back into normal mode. The PC worked relatively OK and was no longer shutting itself down, however, all the games I have on my PC are now much slower.
Whenever a game comes on, cpu usage jumps to 100%. This never happened in the past despite only having 128 MB ram. Even old games like Need For Speed 3 and Halflife, which used to run fairly quickly, now move at a sluggish pace. I have already used Norton Antivirus, Spybot, hijackthis, disk cleanup and disk defragmenter but they have made no difference at all.
I'd like to know what I can do to fix this.
I have a:
Dell Dimension 2300
Windows XP Home Edition
Intel Pentium 4 processor
80 GB harddrive, which currently has 69 GB of free space on it.
CPU 1.79 GHZ
128 MB ram
Any help will be greatly appreciated
