First time on this board - I bought the PC Guide on CD when I was a newbie in '99 and have learnt a lot since then.

My question: One of my machines has suddenly developed a strange problem; When the power switch is pressed (ATX) both power and HD lights come on and stay lit but the machine won't boot until the "reset" button is pressed. It then continues to boot normally with no error messages or beep codes. Any ideas?

My system:
Tyan Trinity S1598 ATX with AMD K6-2 500Mhz
Voodoo 3 3000
6GB Fujitsu & 8GB Seagate HDD's - both on primary IDE channel
Creative CD-ROM Drive & HP CD writer both on secondary IDE channel
Creative SB Live value sound card
Motorola modem
SMC EZ LAN card
Dual boot Windows 98 & 2000

Thanks in advance for any advice..

Has the case on this machine been openned lately?

How old is it?

About the only thing I can think of is that maybe the cable for the switch has gotten pinched and is making an intermitant connection, or maybe the "power good" signal is on the blink (in which case a replacement power supply is in order)

Hey mjc,
Thanks for the tip; no it hadn't been opened lately but I opened the case today and all connectors and cables are ok.
The machine is hard to put an age to since the components were pieced together about 6 months ago.
The power supply is probably most suspect since its about 3 years old by now. I figured it was probably that or the motherboard...
I'll have to get a new p.s. to see if that will help.
Thanks again
