Just got a maxtor hard drive (250GB) for my brother's computer which already has two hard drives in it. So this new hard drive is being put in a case (icy box) and connected via USB which is recognised fine and showing the full capacity after going into disk management.

However i have two maxtor hard drives in my computer one which is 200GB and when installing it i had to use the maxtor big drive enabler for it to recognise the full capacity and not just 137GB. I have since reformatted my c: drive which is not the 200Gb drive and when i booted up again i started losing lots of data and such on the other drive till i remebered i had to use the big drive enabler again which solved these problems.

my question is do i need to use the big drive enabler on my brothers computer as it is recognised as a USB mass storage device and the full capacity has been recognised. I am planning to format the c: on this and so i don't want the same kinda problems to happen again.

I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks in advance for the help.

USB and firewire drives don't require workaround software to get past any storage limits that IDE drives have. They just need the correct interface.
