I am having some problems with my cpu temp it seems to be getting to hot when idel it is around 50C and when i just open a program it jumps to 70C and sometime more.

i have tried to open the case but not have to much luck. from what i could remove i can see that the heat sink is nice an snug to the cpu.

i have a toshiba satellite 1905-S301
intel P4 2.0GHz, 256 Mb ram , ATI mobility M6....

i am also getting the "Blue screen of death" and it seems to say that it is a video error but i can't seem to figure out how to fix it. Lately it just seems to happen when i boot my computer it logs on but once done loading everything it just restarts and sometimes it takes about 5 restarts before i could get on.

Do you have free air flow around the case? You say "from what you can see" which sort of implies vision of the CPU is restricted. Try moving some wires out of the way without disconnecting them so air from the case fan can hit the heatsink. Does the CPU have its own cooling fan? Is this working OK?

If not it may be a case of take the heatsink off, clean the old paste off the heatsink and CPU, get some new thermal paste and re-assemble. Despite looking like a close fit, a fraction of a gap between the heatsink and CPU can make all the difference. As I've just experienced.

well it is a laptop and it is hard for me to take off the case to get to the cpu and heatsink. yea the cpu has the heatsink and fan that came with it.

That makes a difference. Laptops are not my forte so hopefully someone else can help.
Sorry.

Laptops are not user-serviceable. There's not much you can do to fix any overheating problem other than to set the laptop on an ice pack while you use it. :p Since this has become quite a problem in using the laptop, you'll have to contact Toshiba for service. Something inside is probably not right with the cooling and needs to be fixed.
