Running 2k on a Abit NF7-S v2 MB the hibernation tab is missing from Pwr options. This is a fresh install.
I checked the bios and APCI is enabled and shows in Device Manager.
There are two choices under ACPI; S1 & S3. I tried both and no dice.
It was there orginally, but I can't find any bios setting that would disable it.
What am I doing wrong?

Can you access the option by holdong down the SHIFT key?
Try the following:
Go to the "Start" (button)/ select "Turn Off Computer". You should be given 3 (three) choices -Stand Bye - Restart - Shutdown.
Now try holding down the "SHIFT" key and see if the STAND BYE button changes to Hibernate

Would you believe this was without the video drivers installed (done purposely). After I installed those drivers that hibernation tab magically appeared.
OK, thrill me, what does the video drivers have to do with hibernation?

The answer to that question could be long and convoluted.
But to keep it simple, I will just say NOTHING that I can think of, other than it is windows, and MS has decided, in its infinate wisdom, that if things were made easy for thier users then there would be no mystery and excitement in working with a computer. Nor would there be any place for sites like this where you/ me and others can spend many happy hours in trying to figure out your question, or anyone else's, in what ever form it/they take.
So the end conclusion is that MS is doing a public service by making things seemingly un-explainable, thus enabling us to pool our limited brain power to solve questions that they themselves have no answer for.

Its possible thta without the correct video card drivers, windows would not be able to properly send the video card into hibernation.

sites like this where you/ me and others can spend many happy hoursI'm working on the "happy hours" part............ :DIts possible thta without the correct video card drivers, windows would not be able to properly send the video card into hibernation.I thought about that angle. Since the video driver(s) are probably the single most important add-on (if you will), and that is one of the most important items to work along with it is a item to go into hibernation I can see some connection. Of course (as usual), M$'s site had NO info on this.

Monitors need to be "hibernation" compatible - video drivers need to communicate to monitors.

I'll buy that............didn't think about the monitor part of it, just the card itself.
While we are pn the subject, where can I find a EXACT COMPLETE description of the differences between S1 and S# modes? I have seen the M$ answer, but it didn't satisfy me.
Thanks. ;)

Why do you need to push the Start button to turn off your PC?
