Using win 98 I have had the need to use "scanreg/restore" when windows has a problem. I understand windows xp has the system restore but can only be used if the system can be booted. Is there anything like "scanreg/restore" that can be used if windows xp won't boot at all?

I'm sure that there is something similar, I haven't really explored all the options with the recovery tools but I believe the recovery console is what yo are looking for, but I think it is a feature of XP pro....here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gettingstarted/guide/backup.asp)is some info on it.
