System spec:
Windows 95 B (OSR2)
Award Bios v. 4.51
ASUS TX97 Smart Motherboard
ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (PS TX-B19)
AMD-K6 166Mhz
32MB of RAM

The Device Manager lists as a separate category: "? Other devices"
Underneath are listed:

"? PCI Bridge" and
"? PCI Universal Serial Bus".

(? = yellow Question Marks)

To start with this 1997 puter has never heard of USB. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Would it be safe to remove these items?

The PCI Bridge is need by the system.
Have you installed the latest chipset drivers?

It should resolve the Yellow !!
If you remove these items they will just return on the next bootup and new hardware and ask for the correct drivers

Rick Thanks for reply. No drivers available for Intel 430TX PCIset; shall have to get latest graphics card drivers instead.

But am still wondering how the USB turned up in the Device Manager when the system has no USB. (Unless I am stricken with blindness or plain ignorant http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Blindness ? Or maybe one of the very early USB ports on the M/B
Like those on many others that required the user to BUY a USB header.
Check the M/B for a pin set that has 2 rows of 4 pins or 2 rows of 5 pins
Many times they placed then between the PCI slots or next to the (behind) the ps/2 port connectors

Thanks Rick. Had a sneaking suspicion it was plain ignorance on my part concerning early history of USB.
Aye aye Sir, shall now proceed as instructed. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
