I just put together a new system using a Soyo P4S Dragon Ultra motherboard and P4 1.8. For the time being I'm using the hard drives from my former computer (SCSI wih Adaptec Card). Also, I'm trying to boot into the existing Win98 operating system on the hard drive. Booting is no problem....but, the CD and other SCSi devices are not recognized. I'm told that the existing operating system still "thinks" it is in the former computer and therefore does not see the other devices. Supposedly that problem will correct itself after I install the drivers for the motherboard. Unfortunately, the drivers are on a CD and the system does not recognize the CD drive.
Any suggestions? Also, are the drivers likely to solve this problem?
thanks,
Michael
Is the CD also a SCSI device?
Are any of the IDE channels recognized?
Any conflicts in device Manager?
It is usually best to do a fresh install when switching motherboards. You may be able to get by, by removing all the current devices from Device Manager (in safe mode) and letting Windows redetect and install the standard Windows drivers for all your hardware.

Thanks....
The CD is IDE. In CMOS setup the IDE cd-rom is recognized. I will try deleting all the devices per your suggestion and post the results tomorrow (Sunday).
Thanks again

Per your suggestion today I checked for any problems in the device manager and found none. I also switched the ide cable to the cd-rom to a different location on the mother board. Someting must have happened because the cd-rom now showed up in Win 98.
At this time everything seems to be working. I still have not attached any addional scsi devices (tape back up and a scsi syquest drive). Will try that next to see what happens.
Thanks for the help
Michael
