My machine "seems" to take much longer to complete its bootup.
I have read articles on The Forum regarding this feature as a general occurence, but I would like in addition to try to monitor what is acyually running and using resources under various conditions___sort of :run an application and then interpret the effect on the current recourses.
I can't really understand the "System information" data.
have managed to establish for example that the resources used reading goes from 81% to 71% when I open Lotus Smart Suite, but this doesn't help me enough. Also why are there so many duplicate readings in the right hand window eg.SiS 5513 Dual DCI IDE controller(dual fifo)and ES1869 PnP AudioDrive (WDM) at different references.

Perhaps you can at least where to read about these or maybe you can suggest whether these are relevant to the apparent slow boot up.
In a word "I need to know what is actually using resources".

Thanks in advance ( and for all your previous help).

Get a copy of Norton Works,, it has a really cool utility that shows running processes and there individal "drain" on the ram. thats better than say a memory manager that may just show the total ram available before and after a program has been open and closed. Also if ya using 98/Me and XP go to start then run ..type in msconfig, hit enter and choose the startup tab and uncheck programs that doesnt need to load at bootup. Im guessing u have already did this but who knows right?..lol..also if ya already have Norton Works go into the options and set all the utilties to manual operation unless for any certain reason u may not want to do that but if there set to automatically monitor the system it may have loads of processes going on in the background. If ya have 128 Ram or less and run a firewall also ,u may want to max out ya ram for that motherboard be it 512MB and up if ya can afford too. Once ya get everything set do a defrag. But if ya want to see how much a program is just using the Ram once its loaded ,,meaning numeric amounts on a individual basis ,id really suggest getting Norton Works and check out the System Info section ..there may be a smaller program available in a www.google.com (http://www.google.com) search to. All i can offer besides the NOS bottle..lol.
