I've just bought components to put a new computer together and there's a problem with the monitor's power plug: it only has a monitor - PC cable and not a monitor - wall socket cable. Doesnt bother me, except my PCs' power supply unit only has one socket.

I have a spare cable i can use to plug the monitor straight into the wall socket, but I fear the monitor may not be able to handle the direct voltage and fry. Can anyone offer and useful information or suggestions on how to solve this problem, or know if it would be safe to plug straight into the wall?
Any help would be most appreciated, thank you very much.

What do the monitor's instructions say?

The monitor's instructions left a little to be desired. They didn't say anything about voltage or using different connections. However, they didn't say anything about NOT using different connections so i took the risk, and it worked out fine. Thanks anyway.

I can use mine either way with no problem.

Conchobbar,
I don't know how I missed this thread.
For those of us with power supplies that include an AC socket, the voltage is exactly the same as the wall socket, its terminals are soldered into the input terminal legs of the PSU so it includes no filtering and is simply included for your convenience. It does free up one wall outlet socket if it has one included.
