If the mouse is a USB mouse, you have to wait for the system to start back up, if the system continually freezes after being in standby mode, change the power management setting in Control Panel... set your hard drive to Never use power management, also make sure that power management is turned off for the USB ports in the bios. The loss of the mouse after standby is a tempermental bug in windows (I assume you are using windows 95/98/ME)
