FYI--- I ran the Java Virtual Machine update "build 3805" and it rendered my computer virtually unusable. I had to reload Windows. It all started when I downloaded the update and installed it, rebooted, and it had wiped out all my e-mail, prompted me to install Windows Messenger (when I tried to delete it from taskbar, it wouldn't let me), each time I rebooted, Outlook Express had been deleted, when I tried to set up my wife's e-mail account and it asked "do you want to switch to that e-mail address?" and I did, it would start to, then nothing would happen. After that, I could not use any e-mail. I would reboot, and I would be back at the same point of having to set up my e-mail stuff again. On each restart, it would take forever...I mean forever. I really don't know what the deal is with this, but unless anyone knows a fix or can tell me what to do or not to do, I wouln't install that update. It makes everything very unstable...actually, unusable. I am using Windows XP Home Edition, in case it matters.

Hi Jumby,
I downloaded it today but have had no problems.
Have you tried restoring your system to before you installed the update.
OS XP Pro,
kfh.

yeah, but it kept the JVM installation. It even said before I down loaded it that those new settings could not be altered even with a restore. I should have known!!! This really pisses me off, because it looks like a necessary download.

Happy again. This new install of XP (the 4th or 5th) is working much better than the rest. Don't know why, didn't do anything differet. Java is good, and haven't had a single problem. Whole system is working better. I'm doing installs each day just in case I need to "go back". Just wanted y'all to know I'm not always pissed off.
