Hey people,

For some reason, when I try to burn, ripp files on/off to a blank cd, the pc shuts itself down! There is no blue screen, it just switches itself off. On power up I have to go into bios and reset settings then save. Its rather annoying to say the least!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals.

There must be an option to "shut down PC when project is complete" that's checked off. You don't say what burning software you're using but I've seen that option on Nero and Sonic burning software. take a real close look next time you use that software and see if you can find that option.

I don't understand why you'd have to go into the BIOS afterward though. What settings are you having to reset?

Cheers for the reply,

Im using itunes to burn as its so handy with playlists etc and it used to work really well on my old build. You mention checking the 'shut down after burn' but it wont even get that far, its right at the start of the process that it turns off.

With regards to the bios, I have to reset cmos everytime, it wont boot unless I check optimal settings and save/exit.

Thanks

john

Ok, that's really strange. Were you ever able to burn on your new build? What happens if you don't go into the BIOS?

Here's a couple thoughts... check the jumper settings, try a different cable and make sure it's plugged in tight, try burning with a diff program just for laughs. If all these check out it might be time for a new burner.

I presume the new build has a new mobo with a new battery to support the BIOS memory? If it's an old mobo, could the battery in the mobo have died? That is the most likely cause of BIOS losing its memory.

What are the temperatures on the CPU? I had problems with an old CPU breaking down that gave exactly the same problems with the CD writer. If your temperatures are going too high, the CPU will shut the system down.

Was the new build done by yourself? If so and temperatures are high, did you use a good termal paste between CPU and heatsink?
