I'm in a right flap because my young son uninstalled a sound application and somehow managed to leave me with no sound on any of my other audio applications! When I go into Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers - all I'm left with is "Wave Device for Voice Modem"!!
Any advice on how I can get my sound back working again would be really appreciated!
Kind regards
Mark

You'll probably have to reinstall your audio drivers.
What os? What pc?

Hi Ted! I'm running Windows 98SE on a Dell Pentium II 450 MHz PC. I'm really not that knowledgable and could scream after what has happened! Any help you can give would be really appreciated

You'll have to give us the model of the Dell. I think it's on the front lower right side of the tower along with the serial number. There's probably a model like GXA or something on the front top too.
Then look on the back of the tower and tell us if your speakers connect to the motherboard (way to the left and vertically oriented) or to a sound card (more to the right either/or oriented sideways or vertically)
Then go into Device Manager and see what is under Sound, video and game controllers. To get there:
Right click 'My Computer' on the Desktop then choose Device Manager tab. Scroll down to Sound controllers and expand the + sign to see the list. Does anything have a yellow encased Exclamation point? Please report what if any.

Thanks again for all your help! The model is a Dell Dimension XPS R 450 and it has a separate souncard not an onboard one. I think it might be a Turtle Beach Montego II (A3D)?
The only entry under Sound, video and game controllers is "Wave Device for Voice Modem" (no yellow circle or exclamation mark). Under "Othe Devices", there is large yellow ? mark over which is a smaller exclamation mark. The entry against this is "PCI Multimedia Audio Device".
A thought: Would it make any difference if I took the souncard out and put it back in again? I do have a CD-ROM which says "Turtle Beach" on the front. Does this need to be loaded again in some way? Sorry if I'm being really dense!
