I have a Pioneer dvd-rw-dvr-107d which has suddenly stopped writing.

I am using Pinnacle to write discs, and updated with a download last night, but still the re-writer will not write discs.

It has hardly been used and the system says the device is ok.

I have tried using windows to write a disc and still no good, the message that comes up is this device can not be accessed, but everthing else on it works ok.

Please help.

Which OS?
Try going to "msconfig | Diagnostic Startup | restart | Normal Startup" [its like safe mode , but WITH optical drive access], and try doing it there.

Try aboves suggestion.
Check the event log for related events. Check both the Application and System Events. Any clue? Plzz copy it and post it here.
Does pinnacle also give the same message as windows? If not whats that particular error message?

Go to Service Manager, right click my computer icon, click manage, go to Services and Applications, click Services, and then look for a service named IMAPI CD-Burning ..... Check its status, if its disabled, enable it as manual and start the service. Try burning using the XPs burn feature. What happens?

If its not disabled and is set to manual or automatic, disable it. Stop it if its running as well. Atleast for the time being, you can enbale it later. Now use pinnacle to Burn. What happens?
If, no success, re-enable it by setting it to manual.

Have you got other burning softwares installed? If yes try with them as well.

Any UDF packet writing tool installed? those that let you format the disc and use copy paste style to make cd/dvd, eg NeroInCD?
Which Pinnacle software are you using?
If that software(Pinnacle xxxx) let you view the medium info, do it before burning, insert the blank disc in the drive, wait for a few seconds and then view the medium info. What does the info says, No disc present etc?

Plzz post back.

iwctrl.exe is a packet writing program from pinnacle.
Looks a conflict with xp's imapi.

Temporarily disable, iwctrl.exe from loading at startup. If its running as a service, you can can disable it from the service manager. If not you can use the registry editor, regedit to remove it from the registry. If you're not familiar with registry editor or the registry itslef, run msconfig from the run box, and then go to the tab named startup and then untick, iwctrl.exe from there, apply, ok, reboot and then try burning with the XPs burn feature. If burning is a sucess, than its definitely a conflict betn XPs IMAPI burn and pinnacle iwctrl. You don't need iwctrl.exe running all the time.

You can try another approach, disable and stop XPs IMAPI burn service, and then use pinnacle to burn. Should be a success.
Plzz post back.

Well, first of all, if you have already invested on Pinnacle, I don't think you should be hasty for another investment just becuz of this particualr problem. This problem can be resolved I think.
If you still want to get rid of pinnacle, I would definitely say go for Nero.

Well i did the disabling as you said, i disabled windows and the Pinacle drop + burn worked immediatly.

So what do i do now. Do i keep the pinacle or just use the windows and delete pinacle------i burn the odd music, but mainly pics and vid.

Aso if windows is diabled would it affect the performance of other features??

thankyou.

Since pinnacle provides more functionality in addition to what xps burn feature provides, you may want to keep and use pinnacle.

I think another solution(maybe better) would be to stop iwctrl.exe from loading, so that you can use both pinnacle and xps burn. If you stop iwctrl.exe from loading, only the "drop and burn" feature of pinnacle will not work, all the other feature should work. This way, you can use xps burn feature for a drag and drop burn and then use pinnacle for other types of burns(image burning etc).

First we have to test, if pinnacles other functions can work without iwctrl.exe. I think they should.

Well i would have never got this right without your help, i think i will get nero, if only for Pinnacle having a crap and unhelpfull web site which always redirects you into an area to purchase something which ever window you use-----extremely irritating when in need of assistance.

Thanks mate your a star
