With the computer turned off, disconnect and then reconnect the keyboard.

If that does not work try using another keyboard to determine if your keyboard is malfunctioning. If it is, replace the keyboard

Did you install or change any settings that either didn't complete, or were corrupted?
Have you tried "safe mode"? F8 on startup.
What happened with boot disk??

If you have WinME, can you boot to a c:\ you could try a:-
"scanreg \restore" to restore back to a stable backup.

give us some background before this happened

Let's see if this is right here you are saying VKD not VXDwhich are two different things here? "VKD" is a key board error "VxD" is a virtual device driver which one is it you are getting?

all i did was to put another hard drive into my machine, and when i put my previous hard drive back in the error started.

Have tried safe mode, and the same error occurs.

boot disk, with help from Win 98 disk gets through scan disk and all i get then is a coloured background with an eggtimer thats stays there.
