Well,

First time post, so hello all.....

I have a custom built system.
PIII, 512 SDRAM, ABIT BE6 motherboard, Viper770 Ultra, panasonic DVD rom.

Okay,

I disconnected everything the other day as I was building a new system and needed the DVD out of this system along with some of the RAM.

I got new stuff and put everything back the way it was with only one small difference. That being the IDE cables's, I know had one to each my HDD and my DVD, where as before I was running both on one cable as master and slave.

Now here is the problem.

I turn the PC on, it comes on fans start then shuts down after about 5 to 7 seconds if that.

The thing is that it turned on the other day no problem, even after I was messing with it. Then I left it unplugged and off overnight, came back the next day with the result of what is happening now.

I have disconnected everything except the Vid and Ram same results, i have tried one stick of Ram vs 2 sticks and swapped those out with each other as well. I know that the sticks are good cause I tried them in my other computer.

This PC was working no problems before. Turns on, then shuts down, turns on, then shuts down....*sigh*

Power source? Don't see how, since I am running the exact same setup as before and it worked fine for 2 years.....

Any ideas?

Did you set the jumper for the dvd drive correctly? If it's on its own cable, it should be set to master...

Also, what kind of hard drive is it? Some (western digital) have a different jumper setting for master and single drive...if you have the hd on a separate cable, it may need to be set to single drive...

You could try reseating the ram as well, but it sounds like you did that already...

Did you take proper static precautions? Sometimes ESD damage doesn't show up immediately, but causes failure later on...

Try checking all the connectors, fans etc. and the heatsink, maybe you knocked something loose...
