2 brand new cards worked the first few times and died later on giving me PLEASE CHECK CABLE SIGNAL message

Possibly, but I would be more likely to suspect the wrong voltage or excessive heat.

It could be a faulty AGP slot, or it could be a miriad of other things. We'd to know the full details of your system to even begin to guess. All hardware and software info, please.

Did you check the cards in other systems to see if they were really dead? Have you tried the monitor on other systems to see if that's the problem? The BIOS settings weren't off, were they? Have you checked the mobo for faulty/leaking capacitors? It might also be worth a shot to check your voltages (in BIOS) and see if anything is wrong there. Also check for physical system shorts around the mobo and all other components - a tiny shock in the wrong place is all it takes to reduce a vid card into just another cool-looking paperweight.
If all else fails, contact DFI and see what they have to say. The mobo should have a 3-year warranty, so you could always replace that through them and see if that makes the problem go away.
