Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!
Try NewEgg site for a start. Search for "HDD Enclosures".
I would figure there are sites carrying this stuff in Aussieland too.
:D

See ViPowER Smart Family (http://www.vipower.com/images/catalog/choose_smart_family_2.jpg)
and "Your Databridge" Cables (http://www.vipower.com/images/catalog/smart_family(E)_2_2.jpg) [I got VP-9208 USB 2.0, 480 Mb/s]
and Smart Family External Enclosure (http://www.vipower.com/images/catalog/SmartCABLE(E)_2.jpg) [I got VP-9054V Portable 3.5in HDD Enclosure; plastic case with plated sheet steel inside. Small fan and LED & power unit. HDD was easy to fit.]
Product Catalogue (http://www.vipower.com/catalog/catalog.htm)

I paid £25 for the enclosure and £15 [UK pounds] for the cable.
The hardware looks better than the site would suggest.
You need to be careful about drivers.
The CD comes with the cable and the drivers included depend on which cable you buy. They haven't supplied a Win98 driver; only a Win98SE, so I've sent off an email to the manufacturer asking what I do for a Win98 driver.
The hardware was detected, but no Win98 driver found on the CD.
The shop said that the USB 2.0 cable would be backward compatible with USB 1.1, but they didn't mention the Windows version.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I decided in the end to go for this one,

http://www.pluscorp.com.au/Product.asp?CategoryID=317&WebsiteID=2&ProdID=4392

it has no fan, but should be ok as i'm only gonna use it for backups so it wont be on all the time.

Cheers ;)

I can't get mine to work. :(
Hardware was detected, but I had difficulty finding the driver on their CD so as to point the wizard at it. Finally succeeded, correct driver found and installed. Re-booted into Windows 98 [1st edition]. Switched on the drive; the busy cursor showed immediately, but nothing completed; PC froze.
The booklet says this driver is for Win98SE. I sent an email to the OEM saying I didn't have Win98SE, did they have a driver for Win98 1st edition. The reply said I must install the Win98 driver from the CD, which is the one I used.

Hey-ho!
