I have a HP with windows ME. I wanted to insert a clip art object into a word processor document so I clicked on insert/picture/clip art. another window came up I clicked browse found the picture I wanted clicked the picture then clicked Insert and a message came up 'cannot find object' so I tried another one, and finally all of them and got the same response on every one. This is the first time I've tried to use clip art on this computer,I have successfully inserted other type pictures but the clipart installed on windows does not seem to work. Looks to me like if I could see the thumbnail to choose the pic. then it should be able to find it to insert it. Help!!!

Try this:

1) before opening the word processor, put the image into the clipboard by
right clicking on the file and selecting copy

2) Open the word processor and choose edit paste or type <Ctrl>+<V>

But the only way I can find the clip art items is through word processor. It seems as though win 95 had an easily acessible file but I can't find it on me.

Clipart depends less on the OS than on Office/Word(if that is what you are using). The applications point to .wmf files. These "categories" include the clipart items within them. You could search your HDD for any *.wmf files to see if you have any installed and you then know where to locate them from the insert clipart. Otherwise they can be located on the web or on an office CD. Check you Office setup and maybe change the options so that they are kept on disk rather than on your CD. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

yep, and M$ Office 2000- with works/home publishing has (8) disks to it with different clipart and templates it is actually very nice..

I however am missing disk (1) of (8) so I can't install it anymore.

one other thing about word 2000, if only a "typical" install was done, there's a LOT more on the cd that you may need in the future.

such as templates and clipart and fonts I believe.

Sorry here is the info I should have included. I am using Works6.0 which was pre-installed as part of windows when I purchased my P.C. I did a search on *.wmf and it came up with one item 'SBANNER C:\Windows\sys... 5KB WMF image. However it is set to open with image preview and says no preview available. I do not know the proper progranm to use to view this image. I may have to get out my recovery disks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif If I can't find another way to fix this, the file may be corrupt. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

well, too bad you don't have the real M$ (8) disks- but use thr Recover CD and restore that ONLY- don't do a FULL restore.

(at least compaqs have that option)

edit: hey- if ANYONE has the disk (1) of " Microsoft Works Suite 2000"- entitled: "Disk 1- Microsoft Works Suite 2000 Setup
Microsoft Word 2000"

PLEASE email me!

Could be a little confusion here. Works Applications and Office Applications are not the same; even though both are M$.

I haven't used Works in years but, a bell rings somewhere in my head, that it might not use the same clipart files as Office - perhaps someone can confirm.

In any case, I would be inclined to reinstall Works (? version) and/or ensure that any clipart is installed on the HDD (memory allowing) - unless anyone has a better suggestion. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

sea Hope you get disk#1; was it by any chance drowned in hot coffee a while back?? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

nope, accidentally shot it along with a few coasters I was using for target prcatice, they fairly disentegrate into a million pices.. hehe

caught the edge of it somehow and it's cracked..

note to self: should not taget pratice on coaster cd's without being sure there are none I need -in a rapid fire sequence.

Coaster Credits to: Roxio 5 platinum reinstall. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif>> they should INCLUDE a FREE case of practice cd's for coaster adjustments when you purchase it.
