have recently downloaded speedfan and pc wizard, and have found out that my processor is running at a temperature of 128 c° (261 F°)..
needless to say i found this a bit odd seeing as my comp does not feel like an oven.

my detection chip is a Winbond W83627THF and the temperature sensor hooked to the processor is set to PII diode. when i set it to the Termistor diode the temperature drops to a normal setting (i.e 40 C°)
i don't know whether i shouled worry or if this is normal...

also (and i don't know if this is in any way related) my screen has been randomly turning into a bunch or garbled lines where it makes it impossible for me to see anything and the only way to restore is to restart my pc. could this be linked to the overheating processor in the sense that the video card ( ATI Radeo 9800 pro)might just be overheating?
i've looked everywhere on the internet and i can't find solutions to either of these two problems...

thanks to anyone who could give me a hand

Well, the vidcard problem sounds like overheating, but first, can you give us system specs, and what typr of cooling you have for the two components (cpu, vidcard)

Maximum operational temp for most CPU's is 80-90C, so I think that first setting isn't quite giving the correct temps. :p

The vid card problem could be heat-related or it could be driver-related. Does an immediate restart after a freeze fix the problem? If so, it's probably not heat (overheating usually requires a shut down for a few minutes before restarting).

Still, I agree with i an not a nerd, it's too early to determine anything until you give us more info.

an imediate restart does fix the problem, and it the problem appears completely randomly, it could take 5 min to appear just like i can leave my pc on for 24 hrs and nothing..

i am not quite sure where i can get this info, i think i just have a bunch of fans but...

OK...I think you tried to quote a previous post a couple of times, you can either use the "Quote" button when posting or do it manually by adding the right tag. Put [ quote] without the space in front of the comment, and [/ quote] behind it, again without the space. I used the space so the tags would actually show as text and not a quote.

System Specs:
Right click My Computer and click "Properties", that will give you CPU and RAM, (if it's XP, none of the other Windows versions show CPU speed) then click the "Hardware" tab and Device Manager should identify video card, etc.

Since you say it's random, I think either the card is going flaky or you have a driver problem. Heat could be an issue, if the fan is dirty and dust inside is causing it to slow down at random times. Bad card or drivers I think are more likely.
