Hi
I’ve recently acquired a 4 port KVM for my home network.
I’m using it successfully with 2 Desktops & a Server.

Today I’ve added an old laptop. (A Compaq Armarda – Intel P2)
The monitor via KVM works fine, but as there is only one PS2 port on the Laptop I’ve connected both the keyboard & mouse to the PS2 port via a PS2 Y-splitter.
The mouse & keyboard are both basic Logitech devices – the laptop runs win98.

Every thing boots up fine - both mouse & keyboard function OK for about a minute, then the mouse goes crazy & won’t function correctly – the pointer flying all over the screen (The keyboard remains OK.)

Device manager shows no conflicts, both devices use different IRQ’s.
Would the answer be to put both the mouse & keyboard onto the same IRQ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Does the laptop also object to the ps2 splitter when the keyboard and mouse are attached directly rather than via the KVM box.

Hi Paul

Good point – I’ve now been doing some isolating of the problem:

Problem only seems to occur when the mouse to laptop is via the KVM/splitter.
Works OK when the mouse goes straight into the splitter.

Also tried swapping the mouse…but same problem still occurs…so it looks like its the KVM that’s unhappy with a mouse/KVM/splitter/laptop configuration.

I’ve now got one keyboard to four machines via KVM (+ splitter to laptop)
One monitor to four machines via KVM.
One mouse to three machines via KVM.
Second mouse to laptop via splitter.

This set-up is working ok & I guess I can live with two mice on my desk!!

(NB problem also occurs when KVM is powered/unpowered.)

Just to add that i also tried swopping cables on the KVM....did not resolve.
