I have a MSI MS-6547 mother boards. With four IDE devices on Windows XP Pro SP2.

They are configures as below:

Channel 1
Master - Seagate ST340014A 40Gb HD (UDMA 5)
Slave - Maxtor 4K040h2 40Gb (UDMA 5)

Channel 2
Master - Seagate ST380011A 80Gb (UDAM 1)
Slave - LS HL-DT--ST CD-RW GCE-8520B (UDMA 2)

After making the CD-RW the slave and the Seagate 80Gb master both are now using UDMA instead of PIO 2 but the Seagate drive now goes down to UDMA 1 and the CD-RW used UDMA 2.

A larger (> 18") standard 40 pin IDE cable was needed which is not a newer 40 pin/80 conductor.

Would replacing the cable with rounded 40/80 cable help or do I need a shorter cable?

You should have the 40/80 cable for the Seagate on ide 2
The 18 inch length should not be a problem if it is good cable
