when ever i run movies or a marriage ceremony vcd on my pc with os windows 2000 using windows media player things work fine. i received a new vcd of my friends wedding ceremony. when i ran it on my wmplayer it says . files cannot be recognised .when i tried to open it says invalid dos file. but this vcd runs fine on my of my friends pcs they have xp pro as their os. what is the difference between this vcd (dat file) and the other vcds . why does this vcd not run on my pc when other vcds work fine. please help

Well, it might be a super vcd, have you updated your video codecs?

i stay in india . here i doubt if the people who are into the business of making marriage vcds even know that something like super vcd exists . its just a simple vcd i suppose. can u suggest some site from where i can download video codec and is there any particular codec that i shud download

Try downloading the free vlc media player; http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It supports an enormous amount of video files, uses its own plugins to play them rather than Windows codecs, and it's open source, therefore FREE!

Install it, run it, click on File and choose either Open Disc > pick vcd and make sure the drive letter for your cd-rom is correct, or choose Open File and browse to the.dat file on your cd.


Or you can try using VCDGear: http://www.vcdgear.com/ . With it you can convert the .dat to .mpg, correcting any errors. Also a free program!:)

Also, you can try downloading windows media player 10. I think it works on windows 2000...

WMP 10 is for XP only. It will not install on a Windows 2000 or 9X system.
