Hi,
I am new to pcguide forums, and have a bit of an issue. I have a USB memory stick 128MB twinmos which when plugged into the MB ports works fine. But when I plug it into the front panel it does not. The front panel ports work fine with my camera.
The strange thing is that, if I leave my memory stick plugged in for about 5 min, it does detect it and shows it up (only when I plug in and out my camera). Not sure whether this is a the power fault or the ports, I have also tried changing the front panel ports but its the same issue.
Any assistance or guidance whether its my memory stick or the MB connectors?
MB - MSI 865 PE Neo2
Memory - 512 x 2 Kingston DDR400
CPU - P4 3.0E Prescott
HDD - SATA 80GB + IDE 80 GB

Is the memory stick 2.0? Are the front USB ports 2.0? I have been reading up on these the last few days and some of the 2.0 sticks are not backwards compatable with 1.1 ports.

oops, almost forgot, Welcome to the http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif

Front USB ports may be 1.1 with rear ones USB 2.0, we have had posts on the issue on the forums with just that scenario if my memory serves me right. My USB thumbdrive is 2.0 and works with both speeds, just transfers data slower on 1.1 ports.
The strange thing is that, if I leave my memory stick plugged in for about 5 min, it does detect it and shows it up quite possibly 1.1 speed in front.

I've built three systems using this motherboard. The front usb ports are indeed usb 2.0. I've had problems with the front ports on all three. None have worked reliably.

The three systems were all assembled using Antec cases. I have been thinking it was the case but I don't really know. Your case wouldn't happen to be an Antec, would it?

Other than this problem, I think this is a great mobo. Very feature rich, but due to this one issue I have stopped using it.

I wish I had an answer to your problem but I don't.
