During the boot of my system, I get the display for my Diamond Viper 550 video card, it the changes to the "normal" boot screen. It completes the memory test and then it reboots and starts the process all over again to include the video memory test. Any ideas??

Have you tried to boot to a CD or floppy. If you can boot to a CD or floppy, the process is choking when it goes to the hard drive and I would start your troubleshooting there...

Yes, I have tried to boot from both floppy and CD, the system never gets to the point to look for the boot media. I cannot break into the boot process to access the BIOS either. I've tried various key combos on the boot to break/stop but nothing works.
When did the problem start?
Did you add/remove any hardware right before this started?
Was this a previously working machine or a new build?
More system information would be helpful here....

Hi
I believe I had this problem very long time ago. What I did then was remove all my components and place them back. The only thing special was that I placed PAPER WASHERS UNDER the motherboard and VIOLA~~!
Not sure if this helps but good luck

Many of the newer MBs are layered providing protection for the copper traces and therefore not needing insulators to prevent grounding to the case.
My recent build using the ECS K7S5a was an eye opener as I found metal grommets through which the screws attached the MB to the case. On close inspection you could easily see how perilously close the grommets were to the traces, yet providing a solid base to tighten up the mounting screws.
Could be a concern...if the board is older.

Thanks for the ideas, This is/was a working system however, I was working on another one of my systems (I have 3 networked), and I took the MB out to trouble shoot one of the other ones. I will check the paper washers to see if that will help. More to follow...
Thanks again.

You didn't accidently knock something loose and now it isn't seated properly?
You might clear the BIOS and see what happens.
Luck.
