Slot 1 Spacewalker Mainboard, Intel Pentium II 400Mhz CPU. System ran great for a couple of years with no changes. One morning, no boot. No beep codes even with the RAM and boards removed. Other than the power supply, how can I tell if the CPU is bad or the Mainboard?
Thanks

Welcome to the pc guide. It sounds like you made a good start by removing the cards. Try and borrow a cpu, maybe from local computer shop, and try that. It could be either one. Sounds like a good reason to upgrade or get a new system.

Try changing the battery and clearing the COMS...and if it then boots, reload the default BIOS vales, save exit and then reboot again...then you should be able to tweak the BIOS.

When you Power ON do you get anything at all
such as fans running for the PSU or the Heatsink
Fan? Does the Power On LED on the front of the
Box light up?

Yes, both the Power fan and the cpu fan run. I hear the HDD start but it doesn't finish POST and no video at all. It just acts dead. I've got some systems with the same CPU, I'll try to swap them out and see if that makes a difference. I'll also try changing the battery. I never thought of that one, but it seems to me like it would be worth a try. Thanks.

Following up. I changed the battery, first. That didn't help. Then, I got a CPU out of an identical working machine. That didn't work, either. I took the first CPU and placed it in the second machine and it worked. I feel safe in assuming that the mainboard is bad or possibly the bios chip. I'll just order a new mainboard and be done with it. I appreciate the help with this problem.
