My new DVD burner worked fine for three weeks. Than all in a sudded it desappeared (totally, I mean, the Control panel/hardware - The My Computer folder .......) When I run Plextools, it found no device.
So I opened the case and checked connections (useless task because no external force could have moved the connectors out of place) Finally substituted the device with another spare and it regularly works
The dead device emanates a thiny smell of burned.....
Of course there is a warranty.
Now the technical questions:
How is it possiible that a device works fine for weeks and shows a failure just after weeks of regular work? Can anything during assembling (I did it) my computer have caused this. PSU is an ENERMAX EG701AX, could this present current peaks? In a nutshell, if it is my fault, I would try to avoid burning also this second DVD
Thank a lot
Mario

It could be a bad solder, blown fuse or the main cirsuit board deciding that it did not like working and decided to retire.

In other words it could be what used ot be termed as a "Friday Afternoon or Monday Morning Product" or one that slipped past quality control. If it is under warranty just return it and get it repalced. I had a DVD-RW that did the same. One minute there and working the next zilch. Replacement has been no trouble.
