I have an IDE DVD Rewriter and a USB type also. Both are capable of 8X DVD write and the blank DVD's are also rated at 8X. Using Nero, however, I am only able to achieve 2X write. Surely this is wrong. Advice greatly appreciated.

Is 2X the max write speed that can be selected in Nero, or is that the overall average speed that you see when writing?

If 2X is the max that can be selected in Nero, then does it happen with both drives?

Do the drives have 'buffer underrun protection'?

Did you try different types of media?

Yes, 2X is the maximum available in Nero. Does have buffer underrun. Yes, I have tried various types of media.
Thanks for your reply.

What version of NERO and a full hardware list may help us figure it out. Something is limiting it and it may also be resources or available RAM

Well, it seems the problem is with NERO! I have just burned an ISO DVD using ALCOHOL and I had options of burning at 1X 2X 4X and 8X. Selected 8X and no problem at all. Since I want to use Nero, however, can anyone shed any light on why Nero will not let me access the higher write speeds? I am using Windows XP Home edition (Service Pack 2). Cheers

I'd try contacting NERO and see if they'll make it right for you by letting you download another version or at least the same one to see if it does any better.
